Preparing for Your Colonic: Pre- and Post-Care Guide

Kia ora lovely souls,

If you’re getting ready for a colonic session (or just curious!), this guide will walk you through how to prepare and what to do afterward, so you can get the most out of your experience. Think of it as tending to your inner garden—small, mindful steps can make a world of difference.

Before Your Colonic: Setting the Stage…
1. Hydrate Well

Water is your best friend before a colonic. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of pure water in the 24 hours leading up to your session. Well-hydrated tissues help the process flow more smoothly and comfortably. Or even better be sure to drink at least 2 litres of filtered water daily in the week leading up to your colonic.  Add in some electrolytes or pure sea salt for an added hydration boost.  Stop drinking about 2 hours before your session.

2. Eat Light the Day Of

On the day of your appointment, aim for light, nourishing meals—think smoothies, soups, steamed veggies, or a simple salad. Avoid heavy, greasy, or spicy foods, as well as too much caffeine or alcohol.

3. Avoid Big Meals 2–3 Hours Before

Try not to eat a large meal for at least two to three hours before your session. An empty-ish tummy tends to make for a more comfortable experience.

4. Gentle Movement Helps

A short walk or some gentle stretching can help get things moving, both in your gut and in your energy. But don’t overdo it—this isn’t the time for a marathon!

5. Comfort Matters

Wear loose, comfy clothing to your appointment. You’ll feel much more at ease, and it makes everything a little simpler.

After Your Colonic: Nurturing Your System
1. Keep Hydrating

Continue to drink plenty of water after your colonic. Herbal teas (like peppermint, chamomile, or ginger) are also soothing and supportive.

2. Eat Gently

Your digestive system has just had a good clean-out, so give it some TLC:  Start with light foods: steamed veggies, broths, soups, or simple grains. Avoid heavy, rich, or processed foods for the rest of the day.
If possible, skip alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours.

3. Listen to Your Body

You might feel lighter, energized, or even a bit tired—everyone is different. Rest if you need to, and don’t plan a big night out right after your session.

4. Replenish Your Gut

It’s a great idea to add in some probiotics—either a quality supplement or fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, or coconut yogurt. This helps repopulate all the helpful bacteria in your gut.

5. Gentle Movement (Again!)

A walk in nature or gentle yoga helps your body integrate the changes and keeps things flowing.

A Few Extra Tips
Let your body guide you: If you’re hungry, eat. If you’re tired, rest. Trust your intuition.
Emotional release is normal: Sometimes letting go physically also brings up emotions—this is a natural part of the healing process.
